Dr Fiona Curtis

Fiona teaches on the Lancaster Medical Degree programme (MBChB) in Lancaster Medical School. She is the Year 2 Director, responsible for co-ordination of all aspects of Year 2 teaching (including clinical placements), assessment, curriculum development and review, and student progression.
Fiona is involved with specific teaching on the MBChB programme:
- Lectures on the gastrointestinal system and nutrition, the respiratory system and body fluid compartments.
- Year 2 and 3 Problem Based Learning (PBL) tutor.
- Convenor of Special Study Modules (SSMs) on medical education and gastrointestinal topics.
- Workshops on reflection and introducing students to Moodle.
Career Details
Dr Fiona Curtis joined Lancaster Medical School in April 2011.
Fiona graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1997 with a BSc (Hons) in Immunology; and in 2004 with a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine, Departments of Cancer Sciences & Molecular Pathology and Clinical Neurosciences. She began working for Durham University in March 2002 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Centre for Infectious Diseases, School of Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
In September 2007, Fiona joined Durham University's School of Medicine and Health as the Learning Resources Manager, enhancing the student learning experience by leading e-learning within the School and supporting staff and students in use of the University’s virtual learning environment and other learning resources. Fiona graduated in June 2008 with a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Durham University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She was also a CETL4HealthNE (Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) Fellow and a member of the Durham University Medical Education Research Group, researching the use of technology to enhance the student learning experience.
Whilst at Durham University, Fiona also acted as a College Mentor and was a representative on the Stephenson College Council.
