Professor Carol Holland is the new President-elect of the British Society of Gerontology.

Professor Holland, who is Director of the Centre for Ageing Research (C4AR) in the Faculty of Health and Medicine, will become President of the BSG from 2022 for a three year term.

She said: “I’m very honoured by the Society’s choice and hope to continue the previous Presidents’ work in broadening the disciplinary scope and inclusion in the BSG. An important part of the role is to support building capacity for the future in gerontology amongst emerging researchers and this is an important theme as the BSG passes its 50th Anniversary this year.”

The Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medicine Professor Jo Rycroft-Malone offered her congratulations.

“This is a huge personal achievement as well as one that reflects so well on Carol’s work in the context of the Centre for Ageing Research.”

The British Society of Gerontology (BSG) is a leading forum for the advancement of gerontological research and knowledge across the UK, and the professional organisation representing gerontologists in Britain. The Society is a member of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) and of the Academy of Social Sciences.

The BSG brings together academics, researchers, practitioners, educators, policy-makers, the third sector, students, and all those interested in researching ageing and later life, in a unique multi-disciplinary learned society.

The 50th Anniversary conference of the BSG is hosted this year by Lancaster University and will take place online from July 5-9th.
