Modern Languages in Schools Prize
The Department of Languages and Cultures has been running a very successful Schools Essay Prize Competition for a number of years.
The Department of Languages and Cultures are happy to announce the results of the Modern Languages in Schools Prize, 2020-2021.
We’ve been astounded by the response to the competition this year, with 58 schools entering the A-level prize and 27 schools entering the GCSE-level prize. These entries were from around the world, including Jersey, Greece, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Ghana.
Our judges have been extremely impressed by the quality of the entries. The judges commented on how much they enjoyed reading the A-level students’ essays and watching the GCSE-level students’ video presentations. It has been exciting and inspiring to see such a passion and ability for language learning, and we hope that these students will continue to study languages and cultures at a higher education level. We believe that all of the participants should feel, justly, proud of themselves.
Apart from thanking the students for their hard work, we would also like to thank all the teachers and staff who helped make this year’s Prize possible, including by running internal competitions. We know that this has been a challenging year and have really appreciated their efforts.
It was a very competitive field, and we believe that the winners deserve congratulations and praise for their linguistic talent. However, we hope above all that the Schools Prize has provided an opportunity for all the students who took part in some way to have fun whilst learning languages.
