In this presentation, I argue for the need to bring ‘more language’ into content classrooms to further support EAL learners in their acquisition of the content of the National Curriculum.
In this presentation, drawing on the data from my ongoing research that investigates educational and linguistic challenges that learners with English as an additional language face in state schools in the UK, I argue for the need to bring ‘more language’ into content classrooms to further support EAL learners in their acquisition of the content of the National Curriculum.
Bio
Oksana Afitska, PhD, SFHEA, is a lecturer in teaching English to speakers of other languages at Lancaster University, UK. Her primary research interests lie in the areas of TESOL, content and language integrated learning, curriculum and materials’ development. Oksana has extensive experience in conducting classroom-based research, including carrying out cross-disciplinary intervention studies.
