Lancaster Professor provides expertise to Parliament on AI developments in weapon systems in China

Lancaster University Professor Jinghan Zeng has given evidence before a House of Lords inquiry into the development of AI in weapon systems in China.

The inquiry by the Artificial Intelligence in Weapon Systems Committee took place in the Houses of Parliament on 21 September 2023.

Jinghan Zeng, Professor of China and International Studies at Lancaster University, was asked to give evidence based upon his extensive and pioneering research on China’s AI policies and governance in the committee’s fourteenth evidence session of its inquiry.

Professor Zeng said: “It is so important to share our research knowledge and expertise in this way, engaging with policy makers and parliament to ensure academic voices are part of the most important contemporary challenges and debates such as this.”
