Event Details

The Confucius Institute is looking for students interested in applying for the 'Chinese Bridge’ Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students.

The “’Chinese Bridge’ Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students” is a large-scale international contest. Since its launch in 2002, this annual event has attracted more than 1.5 million college students from over 160 countries to participate, of which more than 3,600 have been invited to China to attend the semi-finals and finals.

Contestants are tested on their Chinese language proficiency, knowledge of China, Chinese cultural skills and comprehensive learning abilities in the format of speeches, tackling quizzes, artistic performances and so on.

Competition theme:

One World, One Family

Competition format:

Online competition, Zoom Conference

Qualifications for registration:

  • Current University students;
  • 18 to 30 years old;
  • Non-Chinese nationality;
  • Born and raised outside of China, the native language of the person and their parents is not Chinese;
  • Participants who were not in China in the previous year.

Note: If there is any dispute over qualifications, the competition organizing committee will decide.

Format:

To summarise, the Semi-Finals (held on 26th June) are composed of:

  1. Self-made proposition speech: (3 minutes including self-introduction)
  2. Cultural knowledge quiz: (2 minutes), 5-6 questions, including:
  3. Knowledge of Chinese language: 3-4 questions
  4. Chinese culture (including Chinese history): 1 question
  5. China's national conditions (including current affairs and Chinese geography): 1 question
  6. Chinese talent show: (3 minutes)

Performance forms can include Chinese songs, music, dance, folk art, acrobatics, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting, martial arts, etc.
