From 29th June to 1st July 2023, Lancaster University Head of Department of Languages and Cultures, Dr Derek Hird; Lancaster University Confucius Institute Director China, Professor Mei Yang; Teaching Lead, Dr Jocelin Lingxia Zhou and teachers Joly Xiao and Haoqian Hu attended the British Chinese Language Teaching Society International Conference on Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in the New Normal: Cross-Disciplinary Theory and Practice at the University of Edinburgh.

Director China, Professor Mei Yang, introduced the current status of international Chinese education research with a paper on The Xu-based Chinese as a Foreign Language Introduction: Theory and Practice.

Joly Xiao spoke about exploring the possibility of promoting students spoken discourse based on the Xu-based Tasks theory.

Head of Department of Languages and Cultures, Dr Derek Hird presented a paper on The Third-Person Pronouns in the Chinese-language Classroom: A critical Pedagogy Approach.

Teaching Lead, Dr Jocelin Lingxia Zhou discussed Chatgpt and Chinese verb complement learning --- an exploratory study.
