International Albinism Conference at Lancaster University
Lancaster University Confucius Institute supported participation by Mr Li Guan of the Chinese Albinism Association, in the International Albinism Conference at Lancaster University in September 2025, hosted by Professor Charlotte Baker. This was a valuable opportunity for Mr Li to share the experience of Chinese people with albinism with other international conference delegates. Albinism is a genetic condition that impairs the ability to create the pigment melanin in the body.
The International Albinism Conference takes place each year. It seeks to build upon the success of the 2021 acceptance by United Nations Human Rights Council to pass a Resolution calling for action to stamp out the worldwide atrocities of witchcraft, including ritual killings. Passed without a vote in 2021, the Resolution, which had been several years in the making, was tabled at the UN Human Rights Council by Kenya, with the support of the Africa group, comprising 54 Member States from the African continent.
