My research focuses on aspects of medical education. Recent work includes the measurement of teaching, the use of role modelling and analysis of the standards set for medical school end-point assessments.
Career Details
Trained as a GP I became a Research Fellow in Oxford in 1990. Over time my research focused increasingly on medical education and in 1997 I moved into the management of postgraduate medical education - initially as Director of GP Education in Oxford and then as Postgraduate Medical Dean in Leicester. After a period as a Director of NHSU I moved to Warwick in 2006 where I became Professor of Medical Education in 2008 and Pro Dean in 2010. I moved to Lancaster as Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medicine in 2014.
