Dr Sahir Hussain
Senior Research Associate (NIHR Prevention Programme)Profile
I am a Public Mental Health Researcher focused on reducing inequities in access to treatments across the UK. I hold a PhD in Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience from the Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand) and my work there focussed on genetic and epigenetic factors related to substance use. My research background includes work in New Zealand and the UK and spans child and adolescent populations, epidemiology, public mental health, behavioural science, and molecular research.
Beyond academia, I am passionate about science communication and public engagement. I have experience in radio, public speaking, and podcasting, and I host Smooth Brain Society, where I interview experts and make complex research accessible and engaging for a wider audience.
