Céu Mateus appointed to prestigious international role

Professor of Health Economics Céu Mateus has become President Elect of the European Health Economics Association during an Assembly of Delegates in Vienna.

EuHEA was founded in 2013 to promote cooperation among all national health economics associations and health economics groups in Europe as well as to to profile and foster health economics at European universities. It is an association of national health economic associations. EuHEA's purpose is to promote cooperation among all national health economics associations and groups in Europe and to profile and foster health economics at European universities.

Professor Mateus, from the Division of Health Research, said: “I am delighted to be President Elect of the prestigious European Health Economics Association. The EuHEA is passionate about promoting health economics worldwide and is keen to nurture new talent in a growing multidisciplinary field. We support early career researchers and doctoral students in addition to welcoming world leading international research. I could not be more excited at the future possibilities for the EuHEA.”

Professor Céu Mateus was among the founding members of EuHEA as she was President of the Portuguese Health Economics Association at the time. In 2019 she organised the EuHEA PhD Student-Supervisor Conference in Porto, Portugal, and in 2023/24, together with Professor Bruce Hollingsworth and Professor Pedro Pita Barros (NOVASBE, Nova University, Portugal), she organised the weekly online EuHEA Seminar Series.

EuHEA organises biannually the EuHEA Conference, a yearly EuHEA PhD Student-Supervisor Conference, and the weekly online EuHEA Seminar Series during spring and fall. EuHEA has always emphasised training, mentoring, and support for PhD students and early career researchers.

To this end, the Early Career Committee, which is chaired by an early career researcher, takes a lead role in organizing the EuHEA PhD Student-Supervisor Conferences and additional workshops, training, and networking events supported by EuHEA. There are also dedicated sessions during the biannual EuHEA Conferences for young academics to build up and develop their career in health economics.
