Prestigious conference chair role for palliative care professor

Professor of Palliative Care and Co-Director of the International Observatory on End-of-Life Care Catherine Walshe has taken on a prestigious role co-chairing the 19th World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care.
The Congress is the largest in this field in Europe and will be held in Helsinki, Finland from May 29-31 2025 where around two thousand delegates from across the world will be sharing the latest updates on palliative care research and practice.
Professor Walshe said: “It is an honour to be Co-Chair of the 19th European Association of Palliative Care Congress. This is the premier palliative care conference across and beyond Europe. Our motto this year is ‘Ready for the Future’ and we have planned an exciting mix of speakers and content to help us prepare for the future of evidence based palliative care.”
The International Observatory on End-of-Life Care team will be well represented at the conference in thematic sessions and oral and poster presentations including a high number of PhD students whose abstracts have been accepted for oral presentation. This demonstrates the high quality of their work as only about 10% of submitted abstracts were selected for oral presentation after a rigorous double-blind peer review process.
The team will also be presenting work from a range of current projects including their Horizon Europe funded projects, a NIHR funded Palliative and End of Life Care Policy Research Unit project, and work funded by North West Cancer Research.
