Event Details

Join Lancaster STEM students at The Storey Institute for two nights of fantastic lectures!

This is an exciting opportunity to listen to Lancaster University undergraduates presenting science talks for a wide, general audience. Taking place across two evenings on Thursday 7th March and Tuesday 12th March, these events will showcase engaging and accessible talks on topics drawn from across the sciences. Each evening will feature four 15-minute talks by student speakers, plus a guest talk from a University Lecturer on a topic of interest. The student presentations form part of a new Teaching, Outreach and Public Engagement (TOPE) module recently launched by the Faculty of Science and Technology at Lancaster University. TOPE provides Lancaster undergraduates with the opportunity to engage in the community and communicate their science to a general audience. Come along to be entertained and informed about science!

Tuesday 12th March

  • We all have free will! Or do we?
  • What is Lancaster University doing to combat the global climate crisis?
  • The recipe for a volcanic eruption
  • Jimmy builds a reactor! The story of the next Nobel Prize winner
  • (A performance of the Physics Department in collaboration with Lancaster University Theatre Group.)
  • What can YOU do to save the bees? (Dr. Philip Donkersley, LEC lecturer and TOPE convenor)
