Lancaster University’s Engineering Department has been ranked amongst the top 3 for Mechanical Engineering when it comes to graduate prospects according to the Complete University Guide 2022, released 8th June.

The Complete University Guide ranks UK universities both nationally and across 74 different subject areas. Universities are ranked by entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality and intensity, graduate prospects, and are then provided with an overall score. This year, Lancaster University was ranked 11th nationally, out of 130 institutions.

In addition to its success in Mechanical Engineering, the Engineering Department also saw Electronic and Electrical Engineering rank 1st for research intensity, whilst Chemical Engineering ranked 8th for graduate prospects.

The Departments’ Academic Employability Champion, Prof Allan Rennie commented: “With the support of the central Careers Service, we’ve placed an increasing emphasis on the industrial context and gaining experience within our undergraduate engineering programmes, from early in the first year of study, including full-cohort visits to major manufacturing organisations in the region, guest speakers, and support for internships and placements. In particular, these experiences have provided our students with the confidence to apply for and undertake a year-in-industry, which has grown by 130% in the last three years. The impact of all of this activity is witnessed in the positive effect such experiences are having on our undergraduate students, their work-readiness and their reputation in the ‘industrial world’. We are therefore immensely proud to see that our largest programme, Mechanical Engineering, is now ranked 3rd and Chemical Engineering ranked 8th for Graduate Prospects.”
