Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Lancaster University has been ranked among the best in the world by an international league table.

The Shanghai Ranking Academic Rankings of World Universities 2020 has ranked Electrical and Electronic Engineering at 39^th out of 500 globally, and fourth in the UK.

Professor Claudio Paoloni, Head of Engineering at Lancaster University, said: “It is very exciting to be in the Top 40 of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It recognises the excellence of our outstanding scientists in electronic engineering within the Department. We have expertise ranging across the most relevant areas of electronics and I am very grateful to our academics for collectively achieving this prestigious position in international standing.”

Lancaster University Electrical and Electronics Engineering areas of expertise include:

· Radiofrequency engineering experts substantially contribute to the success of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

· We are developing one of the fastest outdoor terahertz wireless network for 5G and future 6G by using novel ‘traveling wave tubes’ built in our state of the art facilities.

· We are producing flexible electronics for the new generation of sensors.

· Our academics are leading experts in terahertz devices, non-destructive THz testing applied tohealthcare and radar exploration of the deep secrets of glaciers.

· We have leading research in state of the art photonic devices and high efficiency solar cells

Shanghai Ranking has been the official publisher of the Academic Ranking of World Universities Since 2009.

The ranking adds to other high rankings for Engineering at Lancaster. Chemical Engineering is ranked top for Graduate Prospects in The Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2020 and Mechanical Engineering is ranked fourth for Student Satisfaction by The Guardian University Guide 2020.
