George Pickett Memorial Day

We look forward to sharing and celebrating with you the life and impact of a truly remarkable person, and to witnessing with you the renaming of the IsoLab building in memory of George.

If you have received an email from Lynne Haley about the event, then we know you are coming. If you haven’t received an email and would like to come, you are more than welcome. However, can you please email Lynne Haley as soon as possible to help us with catering (including any allergen or dietary requirements).

Schedule and Venues

Three venues will be used (see Campus Map), as follows:

  • 08:30-09:15 Arrival and Coffee (Faraday Lecture Theatre complex)
  • 09:15-10:30 George, Lancaster and Beyond
  • 10:30-11:00 Coffee Break
  • 11:00-12:00 Reflections from Around the World
  • 12:00-13:00 Reminiscences
  • 13:00-14:00 Lunch (Private Dining Room)
  • 14:00-14:30 Plaque unveiling (Outside IsoLab)

Travel and Parking

The campus is having extensive works carried out this summer, and parking is more limited than usual. Please allow ample time to find a parking space. The nearest visitor parking to the Physics department and the Faraday Lecture Theatre is in John Creed Avenue; however, there are many other areas for visitors. Search the mazemap for visitor parking.

Access requirements

Please let us know if you have any access requirements. The Campus Map indicates the location of accessible ramps.

Dietary/Allergens

The University is committed to a full allergen accreditation across campus, and suitable meals are always provided for all 14 allergens and other main food intolerances. Please provide Lynne with details of any allergens or dietary requirements so that we can ensure we provide you with appropriate food.

Dress code

There isn’t one. Please wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Photography and recording of events

We hope to commemorate the day with photographs of the plaque unveiling and guests in attendance, as well as a recording of the tributes. If you do not wish to be recorded or have your photo taken, please let Lynne know in advance.
