'How often does a solicitor… … .' ‘Sorry to interrupt but, hi my name is John’

Law students often find themselves in situations like the one above, especially at Law Fairs and networking events where they do not get to complete their questions, and are jostled by other fellow competitive law students, equally eager to strike up a conversation with the recruitment representative.

This is where the Lancaster University Student Law Society comes to the rescue with its annual Careers Dinner! The Careers Dinner hosts some of the top law firms in the country including –

Allen & Overy, DLA Piper, DWF, Freshfields, MacFarlanes, Pinsent and Masons and the University of Law (for those interested in pursuing an LPC, BPT or a GDL) and gives students an opportunity to dine (yes, your ticket is inclusive of a 3 course meal!) with a firm of their choice. The firms are represented by 2 representatives each, often a trainee solicitor and graduate recruitment officer. Each table hosts a maximum of 6-7 students, giving ample time and opportunity to get their questions across and obtain a considerable insight into the working of the organisation. This also enables students to develop a good camaraderie with the representatives which will be of help when applying for vacation schemes and training contracts.

All in all, the event this year, like every other year, was a great success and was a fantastic learning experience!
