Speaker: Margaret Symington (Mercer). Title: Mapping symplectic K3 surfaces
Abstract: The moment map image of a toric symplectic manifold gives a revealing "chart" that maps aspects of the topology and symplectic structure of the manifold, as does the base of an almost toric fibration. The value of both charts relies on the rigidity of Lagrangian fibrations with "nice" singularities. Borrowing ideas from mirror symmetry, a class of polytopes somewhat more general than reflexive polytopes provide a global view of certain singular integral affine structures on S^2, which in turn reflect the topology and symplectic geometry of symplectic K3 surfaces.
