Graded Lie algebras and families of algebraic curves

Motivating by questions from arithmetic statistics, I'll talk about how we can build certain families of curves (for example, the family y^2 = x^3 + Ax + B of elliptic curves) using graded Lie algebras. I won't assume any knowledge about graded Lie algebras or arithmetic statistics but will give an introduction to these ideas via examples.
