LMS 150th Anniversary Northern Regional Meeting and Workshop on Homotopical Algebra and Geometry
Tuesday 7th April 2015, 2pm: LMS 150th Anniversary Northern Regional Meeting
Wednesday 8th-Saturday 11th April 2015: Workshop on Homotopical Algebra and Geometry
Homotopical algebra was created in the 1960s in seminal works of Quillen, Grothendieck-Verdier and Dold-Puppe. Since then it has found innumerable applications in various fields of mathematics, most notably in algebraic topology and algebraic geometry.
In the last couple of decades, the influence of homotopical algebra has extended to representation theory, differential geometry and aspects of theoretical physics; its role and importance has been steadily increasing. This workshop aims to bring together experts from all these areas and more, to explore ideas of 'higher algebra' and foster new collaboration.
The LMS Northern Regional Meeting will be commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Society. There will be three talks at the Meeting: one exploring the history of algebra and geometry in the UK and the other two given by mathematicians who helped shape our modern understanding of homotopical algebra and related fields. The meeting will also incorporate a Wikipedia Editathon.
