Lancaster spinout listed as a finalist for 2025 WIPO Global Awards

Lancaster Physics spinout company Quinas Technology has been selected as one of the 30 global finalists in the 2025 WIPO Global Awards, organised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
The WIPO Global Awards celebrate the achievements of startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have successfully used intellectual property (IP) assets to fuel business growth and societal impact. This year’s edition attracted a record 780 fully submitted applications from 95 countries, 30 finalists were shortlisted by the WIPO Secretariat.
On being selected for the WIPO Global Awards, CEO and Co-Founder of Quinas Technology James Ashforth-Pook commented: “We’re incredibly proud that Quinas Technology has been named a finalist in the 2025 WIPO Global Awards. It’s a huge honour to be recognised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation, especially at this early stage of our journey. This nomination highlights the originality and potential of ULTRARAM™ and the importance of translating university research into globally relevant, high-impact innovation.”
Chief Scientific Officer for Quinas Technology and Lancaster Physics academic Professor Manus Hayne added: “As a company that is commercialising a new memory technology in a sector where intellectual property is of paramount importance, the significance of this prestigious validation by WIPO cannot be overstated. We are delighted to have been shortlisted for an award.”
Finalists were assessed on the suitability of their business model and IP portfolio, their international IP strategy, their internal IP culture, and their positive impact on society. Quinas Technology’s inventive approach and IP strategy is enabling the development and commercialisation of ULTRARAM to address the pressing challenges surrounding computer memory.
“The finalists for the WIPO Global Awards exemplify the power of IP in action,” said Mr. Marcelo Di Pietro, Director, WIPO Awards Program. “These companies show how creativity and IP rights can be combined to generate tangible benefits – for their businesses and for the world. We warmly congratulate Quinas Technology for reaching this stage.”
The winners among the finalists will be announced at the official WIPO Global Awards Ceremony on the 11th of July 2025, held during the 66th WIPO General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
