We encourage and support the formation of spin out companies using unique expertise and resources available within the University.

  • Chronotaxia

    Co-founded by Dr Phil Clemson (Chief Executive Officer), Professor Aneta Stefanovska (Research Director), and Dr Gemma Lancaster (Clinical Director), Chronotaxia is developing next-generation health technologies that unlock the diagnostic and prognostic value of biological oscillations.

  • Lancaster Helium

    Lancaster Helium Ltd supplies the isotopically pure He-4 gas needed for a diversity of applications including coolant gas in a nuclear reactor, down-scattering medium for ultra-cold neutron (UCN) production. The He-4 isotopic purity achieved by our process is believed to be perfect.

  • Lancaster Material Analysis

    Lancaster University spin out company Lancaster Material Analysis Ltd (LMA), based in Lancaster, offers commercial access to material analysis services, in particular scanning probe microscopy and cross-sectional imaging and analysis.

  • Photarix

    Photarix Ltd was founded in 2025 by Dr Gizem Acar Tekin (Chief Executive Officer), Professor Manus Hayne (Chief Scientific Officer), Dr Samuel Jones (Chief Technology Officer) and Jeremy Gidlow (Chair) to commercialise Lancaster University research in quantum photonics. The company is developing quantum light source technology for secure communications, quantum networks and future optical communication systems.

  • Quantum Base

    Co-founded by Professor Rob Young, Chief Scientific Officer, Quantum Base Ltd span-out from Lancaster University in 2013. The company has invented, developed and patented a portfolio of unbreakable nanoscale quantum security devices.

  • Quinas Technology

    Quinas Technology Ltd was co-founded in 2023 by James Ashforth-Pook (Chief Executive Officer) with Professor Manus Hayne (Chief Scientific Officer) and Dr Peter Hodgson (Chief Technical Officer) from Physics to commercialise ULTRARAM™ universal memory technology.
