Fitness classes at Sport Lancaster are delivered by experienced, qualified, and knowledgeable instructors, motivated to get you moving.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced fitness enthusiast, our classes are split into four main categories, and are designed to help you achieve your health and wellness goals. From high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to yoga and everything in between, there is a class for everyone.

15-minute In-gym Workshops can also be viewed on the online timetable, focusing on strength and conditioning workouts with the support of a certified Sport Lancaster Gym Instructor.
*Please note, once a class has started, participants will not be permitted late entry because missing the warm-up increases risk of injury.
If you cannot attend a class for any reason, please cancel your booking as far in advance as possible to allow another member to book onto the class.

HYROX is a fitness sport that has gained popularity over the past few years and is growing globally, combining running and functional movements.
Sport Lancaster's HYROX programme is inclusive of all fitness abilities, delivered by certified HYROX coaches in a HYROX-equipped area within the Strength and Conditioning Gym.
HYROX
The baseline, coached HYROX session takes place daily, consisting of an introduction to the session, before warming up and commencing the workout.

Beginners HYROX
The Beginners' session is aimed at those looking to start their HYROX journey, held during off-peak times when the gym is quieter.
Participants will learn the fundamentals and techniques required for each movement, followed by a 'workout of the day'. This will be tailored to suit each individual.

Women's HYROX
Women's HYROX mirrors the baseline class, consisting of an introduction to the session, before warming up and commencing the workout. Sport Lancaster is dedicated to creating an inclusive space where all gym users feel confident to train.

Lancaster University staff members are encouraged to meet like-minded colleagues at the Staff HYROX class, which mirrors the baseline class and consists of an introduction to the session, before warming up and commencing the workout.

More people are choosing the gym over the bar to connect and socialise. Sport Lancaster's Singles Club HYROX class is designed for individuals looking to meet new people in a fun, active environment on a Friday night.

Blitz your body into shape in a circuits session with a series of high energy stations designed to be challenging, fun, energetic, varied, and addictive.
Circuits
An energetic and highly effective full body workout where teamwork and individual sections challenge both the cardiovascular and muscular systems.
HIIT
High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) combines bodyweight and resistance training to whip your body into shape. Get ready for short bursts of maximum effort.
Legs, Bums & Tums
Legs, Bums and Tums (LBT) targets the legs, glutes, and abs to burn calories whilst toning muscle. Not only does this class improve your core and lower body, but also your stamina, balance, and overall performance.
Les Mills BODYPUMP
A scientifically-backed barbell workout using light to moderate weights and high reps to build strength and get you fit – fast.
Les Mills CORE (Virtual)
An intense core workout for functional fitness, designed to build strength, stability, and endurance in the muscles that support your core, including the abs, glutes, and back.
Les Mills GRIT (Virtual)
A variety of 30-minute bodyweight workouts that combine scientifically tested moves with powerful music. Whether you want to build muscle or improve your cardiovascular fitness, take your pick between Strength, Cardio, or Athletic.
Rise & Grind
Wake up and get your workout in early with our in-gym bootcamp class. Combining cardio intervals and floor exercises, this full body workout is guaranteed to elevate your heart rate and push you beyond your limits.
Spin & Weights
Combining cycling with intervals using dumbbells, this class accelerates you towards your fitness goals by sculpting and toning the muscles, whilst using the spin bike to get a real sweat on.
Aqua Fit
A low impact, full body fitness class that will improve range of motion, strength, muscle tone, and cardiovascular endurance through easy-to-follow exercises.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is defined as movement that develops strength, flexibility, bodily relaxation, and mental concentration. This class provides a balanced combination of sustained poses with attention to basic alignment and breathing techniques.
Dynamic Release Yoga
This practice focuses on cultivation of body awareness and dynamic release. Not only is yoga an excellent antidote to stress, but it also aids major improvements to flexibility.
Fitness Pilates
Using the principles of traditional pilates and delivered in a modern style, this class is taught to music and includes elements of mobility, active and passive flexibility, standing and functional exercises, stretching, and relaxation.
Les Mills BODYBALANCE
A yoga-based class that will improve your mind, body, and overall wellbeing. With elements of Tai Chi, Pilates, and yoga moves, you will strengthen your entire body, improve flexibility, and reduce stress.
Pilates
Work through a flow of positions to increase your core strength along with flexibility across your full body. Pilates involves concentration, and the co-ordination of breath and movement, thereby helping to balance mind and body, leaving you feeling relaxed and focused.
Rise & Shine Yoga
Elevate your mornings with this invigorating Hatha class designed to awaken your body, mind, and spirit. Enjoy a harmonious blend of traditional yoga practices and modern wellness techniques that will enable you to build strength, mobility, and flexibility.
Somatic Yoga Flow
This gentle somatic yoga flow class focuses on introspection, helping you to tune into your body, mind, emotion, and energy, whilst focusing on breathing and full body movement.
Somatic Vinyasa Flow
Suitable for all levels, this soothing yoga class leans toward muscle training and balancing.
Supple Strength
A non-impact bodyweight workout that blends exercises drawn from Pilates, Yoga, and body conditioning. You will build strength, improve balance, and increase flexibility through a focus on posture, core stability, and body alignment.
Fit4Tap
An alternative tap dance fitness class aimed at beginner or refresher tappers who want to learn to tap with the added flavour of a cardio workout. Sculpt and tone, strengthen the mind, and develop a great sense of rhythm and timing.

Les Mills THE TRIP

Zumba
Combining moves from a range of styles, this urban dance class features high intensity and low intensity intervals to help improve cardiovascular fitness while enhancing balance, coordination, and agility.
Gym Bootcamp
A short, high-intensity workout featuring a variety of functional exercises. The session includes a 5 minute warm up, 10 minute main component, and 5 minute cool down.
Lifting Workshop
An introduction to deadlifts, squats, and bench press. Whether you're a total beginner or you want to take your training to the next level, learn how to warm up and improve your lifts.
Skillmill Bootcamp
A short, high-intensity performance workout, switching through running, sled work, and parachute sprinting. The session includes a 5 minute warm up, 10 minute main component, and 5 minute cool down.
Virtual Workouts
Our LES MILLS Virtual classes are led by world-leading instructors on the big studio screen at Sport Lancaster. Virtual workouts are the same LES MILLS programmes you know and love, which push you to your limits and motivate you to achieve amazing results.
How does it work?
LES MILLS Virtual features pre-recorded classes projected onto a large screen in the studio. Once you have arrived in the Sports Centre, head to Studio 1 and begin your workout by following the on-screen instructions.

Do Virtual workouts take place at home?
LES MILLS Virtual takes place within the Sports Centre in Studio 1. Wave goodbye to solo workouts in your living room and get ready to join a community of like-minded people.
Is there a live instructor on the screen?
Virtual workouts are pre-recorded by enthusiastic, world-class LES MILLS instructors who will guide you through the session.
Will I need equipment?
If equipment is required, this will be shown on screen at the beginning of the workout. For cycle classes, spin bikes will be ready in the studio.
Which classes are available on Virtual?
We offer 11 programmes: Barre, bodyattack, bodycombat, bodypump, bodybalance, core, grit, rpm, sh’bam, sprint, and the trip.
Who are Virtual workouts suitable for?
If you are looking to improve your fitness, Virtual is for you! With an exciting variety of workouts available, there is a class for everyone. All workouts include clear instructions and demonstration of exercises so you can follow along.
Are Virtual workouts included in my membership?
All Virtual classes are included in your Sport Lancaster membership. If you do not have a gym membership, you can pay separately for a Virtual class.
