A fresher’s guide to Sport Lancaster

Sport Lancaster offers a range of memberships, pay-as-you-play, and free activities, designed to suit flexible lifestyles, schedules, and sporting interests.
Memberships
Peak Membership
Enjoy unlimited access to the gym, swimming pool, fitness classes, and sauna/steam facilities at any time during opening hours.
Off-Peak Membership
Access the same facilities as Peak members, with weekday entry available until 2:30pm. Full access is available at weekends.
Rock + Racket (R+R) Membership
Designed for those who enjoy climbing and/or racket sports.
R+R Bolt-On
Add climbing and racket sports to your existing Peak or Off-Peak membership for an additional fee.
Membership Benefits
BUCS Universal Gym Scheme: When the membership is paid in full, 12-month Peak members can use over 80 gyms nationwide that participate in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) scheme.
Direct Debit Discount: Pay in full to receive a 12-month membership for the price of 11 months.
Pay as you play
For maximum flexibility, you can choose to pay for individual sessions across our facilities, allowing you to access the gym, fitness classes, swimming pool, climbing wall, and indoor and outdoor courts and pitches on a casual basis.

Sports clubs & teams
Sport Lancaster supports the Students’ Union’s clubs and societies by providing competition-standard training facilities.
Students joining a sports team should purchase a unique Student Sport Pass, which, depending on the level of pass required, covers BUCS fees, governing body affiliation, competition transport costs, team access to training facilities, and subsidised kit.
A Sport Lancaster Membership, when paid in full, can include the required Sports Pass and allow independent use of the sports centre’s training facilities, outside of team training.

Bike Hire Scheme
Lancaster University’s Bike Hire Scheme provides students with a healthy, affordable, and enjoyable way to travel between the campus and Lancaster city.
The scheme includes a sustainably sourced, refurbished bike which is inspected and maintained termly by a local cycle specialist.

Buddy Scheme
The Sport Lancaster Buddy Scheme is an initiative designed to enhance the fitness experience for students by pairing individuals based on shared interests, fitness levels, or schedules.
The scheme aims to create a supportive and friendly environment for those who may feel apprehensive about using sports facilities alone, or, are looking for a partner to engage in activities like racket sports.
Complete the online Buddy Scheme form to be matched with a buddy.
Free campus classes
Weekly Wellbeing Walks
Every Monday, 12.15-12.45pm, Meeting point: University House
Enjoy 30 minutes of fresh air during your lunch break and meet new people during a 30-minute group walk every Monday, led by Sam Cadwallader, Engagement and Wellbeing Manager at Sport Lancaster, all abilities are welcome.
Stretch & Mobility
Every Wednesday, 12.15-12.45pm, Library Events & Exhibition Space
Stretching contributes to maintaining a healthy and functional body, improves flexibility, alleviates muscle tension, reduces the risk of injuries, enhances physical performance, and promotes better posture.
30-minute Stretch and Mobility sessions will take place in the Events & Exhibition Space in the Library every Wednesday from 12.15pm. Mats are available to borrow.
Other ways to get active
Make the most of Sport Lancaster's facilities through a wide range of other activities, including personal training for tailored fitness support, group exercise classes for motivation and variety, swimming lessons to build confidence and technique, and climbing workshops to develop skills on the wall.
