Lancaster University Triathlon raises £7838.61 for local charities

The sprint-distance Triathlon at Sport Lancaster this year raised £7838.61 for local charities, St John's Hospice and Cancer Care.

The annual event began in 2016 in memory of Dr Andy Bailey, a much loved and respected colleague at Lancaster University Management School from 1997-2015 who died suddenly at the age of 49.

Since its inception, the Triathlon has raised over £44,000 for St John's Hospice and Cancer Care combined.

The 400m swim, 20km bike ride, and 5km run was completed by 148 participants, including 71 first-time triathletes and 5 teams.

Sam Cadwallader, Wellbeing & Engagement Manager at Sport Lancaster, commented:

"After nine months of preparation, there are simply too many people to thank individually. So many have offered their time, effort, and encouragement behind the scenes, and we’re truly grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this event to life.

"A huge thank-you goes to our amazing committee, whose teamwork and dedication made everything possible. And of course, a very special thank you to our event sponsors, Vital Energi, Tilbury Douglas, and FRS Roofing. With the rising costs of running events like this, their generous support has made a real difference and ensured that the money raised goes where it matters most.”
