LUSU’s Sportsperson of the Year Award goes to Sport Lancaster Climbing Instructor

Sport Lancaster is proud to congratulate Sam Lavender, Climbing Instructor and standout member of Lancaster University Mountaineering Club, on being named Sportsperson of the Year at Lancaster University Students’ Union’s Sport Awards.

Presented by the Students’ Union, the Sportsperson of the Year award recognises not only sporting excellence, but also an individual’s wider contribution to sport at Lancaster.

Sam’s achievements this year mark the most successful individual competition season in Lancaster University Climbing history. Highlights include:

  • 1st place at the Northern Universities Bouldering Series
  • 2nd place at the National Universities Lead and Speed Climbing Competition
  • A near-finals finish at BUCS Nationals, competing against the UK’s top student climbers
  • A double win at Roses in both the Individual Open Lead and Open Boulder competitions – maintaining an unbeaten Roses record over four years
