Sport Lancaster 3G Pitch upgraded to maintain international standards

3G pitch at Sport Lancaster

Sport Lancaster’s 3G pitch has undergone significant upgrades to ensure it continues to meet the specifications required for World Rugby and FIFA accreditation.

The project involved removing and replacing the existing pitch carpet, which will be fully recycled and reused as part of the University’s commitment to sustainability. The new surface has been installed to meet the highest performance and safety standards for both rugby and football.

Enhancements have also been made to improve security and safeguard the facility for all users. Secure access to the pitch has been managed, and the height of the perimeter fencing has been increased from three to six metres. This measure aims to prevent unauthorised entry and protect the integrity of the playing surface.

Operations Manager of Facilities at Sport Lancaster, Chris Mitchell, said the improvements will help maintain the facility’s reputation as a high-quality venue for training and competition:

“The upgrade ensures our 3G pitch continues to provide an exceptional playing environment that meets international sporting standards, while also prioritising sustainability and security.”

The upgraded pitch is now fully operational and ready to host both community and competitive fixtures in the new academic year.
