Ways to be well with Sport Lancaster this New Year

Person running through the Woodland Trail on campus

The team at Sport Lancaster is dedicated to providing an environment on campus where everybody feels confident to enjoy physical activity. Here are some ways to get started in January:

Weekly Running Club

Sport Lancaster’s weekly Running Club is a safe space for complete beginners and advanced runners. The added benefit to joining this weekly club is new friendships, reduced feelings of loneliness, and a support system witnessing each other’s achievements.

The Running Club meets at Sport Lancaster, every Thursday at 1.30pm, for a 45-minute supportive session.

Resolution Run

Sport Lancaster is hosting a 4km Resolution Run in partnership with the Student Union’s Active Lancaster initiative, raising funds for Defying Dementia.

Taking place on Sunday 28 January at 11am, the event is open to all age groups and ability levels, and participants can choose to walk, jog, and/or run the 4km route.

Register today to secure your place.

Weekly Wellbeing Woodland Walks

Slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and appreciate the beautiful outdoors. The Woodland Walk surrounding the campus provides the University community an opportunity to disconnect from any stresses and reconnect with the environment.

Guided 30-minute Wellbeing Walks start in University House Reception, every Wednesday at 12.15pm, alternatively, jump on the Woodland Walk trail at a time that suits you.

Campus Classes: Stretch and Mobility

Stretching and mobility contribute to maintaining a healthy and functional body and improve flexibility. By incorporating stretching into a daily routine, we can alleviate muscle tension, reduce the risk of injuries, enhance physical performance, and promote better posture.

30-minute Stretch and Mobility Campus Classes will take place in the Library every Tuesday, from 12.15pm. Mats are available on demand, but please endeavour to bring your own.

Climbing Workshops

Climbing is a fun way to stay active and promote physical strength, coordination, and problem-solving neuro skills. The newly introduced Climbing Workshops are designed to help new climbers level up in specific focus areas, build confidence in their abilities, and learn technical fundamentals to implement into their climbing sessions.

Experience all aspects of the climbing facility during a Try A Climb class, suitable for anybody looking to get a feel of the sport. Classes cost £5 and entitles participants to spend 45 minutes on the wall.

Sport Lancaster Facilities

Achieving personal fitness goals and witnessing physical improvements in weightlifting can boost self-confidence and enhance overall self-esteem, leading to a more positive outlook on life.

Gain confidence using gym equipment during a Gym Class or Group Exercise Class, take advantage of a solo swim session in the 25m Swimming Pool, or book a court/pitch to enjoy a game with a group of friends at the end of a long day.

Browse the types of Memberships on offer at Sport Lancaster, or visit the facility on a Pay As You Play basis.
