With the impact of flooding becoming increasingly frequent and devastating in the flood prone Niger delta region of Nigeria, scientist and decision makers likewise are faced with the challenge of acquiring adequate data and information to help make decisions regarding flood management.
My research aims to fill this void by exploring an integrated flood management approach based on the coupling of remotely sensed data and readily available hydrological data within the region to estimate flood return periods and consequently flood extent and impacts in the predominantly ungauged and data sparse basin, taking into account the uncertainties associated data variability.
