My research explores the efficiency with which cereal crops use water. Using a phenotyping platform, I measure the water use of different genotypes of maize to find varieties that maintain yield when water is limited. We hope to understand implications for crop productivity and food security under reduced water availably, and improve yields in regions that suffer from limited water resources. I also investigate whether improving plant responses to oxidative stress can influence water use efficiency.
