I am a climate scientist, using computer models and observations to understand the composition and climate of the atmosphere, and how it all relates to the Earth system. You can follow me on twitter and academia.edu, or send an email.

Research

I work on stratospheric and tropospheric ozone, multi climate model analyses, biosphere-atmosphere links, analysing temperature data and modelling novel pollutants. You can find information about my published research on my google scholar page.

I am a member of the Scientific Steering Committee for the IGAC/SPARC Chemistry-Climate Model Initiative (CCMI), which is an international climate modelling project that is seeking to understand changes in the composition of the troposphere and the stratosphere, from the latter half of the 20th century and projecting into the future. I recently hosted the 2014 CCMI Workshop at Lancaster.

I am a chapter co-author for the upcoming 2014 WMO Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion, and I was also a contributing author to two chapters of the IPCC 5th Assessment Report. Teaching

From 2014, I will be teaching a new 3rd year/Masters-level course on Global Change and the Earth System (LEC378 and LEC477). This will cover topics in the IPCC reports, as well as global Earth system models and the links between climate and stratospheric ozone, and climate and air quality. This will also involve a field trip to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI).

I also teach a first year maths course (LEC178) for students coming into our degree programmes without a maths A-level.

Other roles

I am the LEC Careers and Alumni tutor, acting as a bridge between our students and the careers advice provided centrally, and seeking to engage our alumni in our current activities. The highlight of the Careers year is the LEC Careers Event, attracting employers and alumni in LEC-relevant fields. The first event was held in March 2014.
