Colleges | Celebrating Community and Culture: Ramadan Activities on Friday 13 March
The Colleges will be hosting a special day of community, creativity, and reflection on Friday 13 March, with two Ramadan‑themed events open to students and staff across the colleges.
Ramadan Arts & Crafts Session | 11:00am–1:00pm
Students are invited to drop in for a relaxed, hands‑on crafting session where you can help create Ramadan decorations for the evening’s Iftar. All materials are provided free of charge, and local Mendhi artist Naz will be offering traditional hand painting. Light refreshments (water, tea, coffee, and soft drinks) will be available, and you’re welcome to stay for as long as you like. The event provides a chance to connect with others and enjoy a mindful break in the middle of the day.
Free to attend, but registration is required. Bookings for this event can be made through the College and Community LibCal page.
Colleges Iftar Event | 5:30pm–9:00pm
Staff, students, friends, and families of all faiths and cultures are warmly invited to join a traditional Iftar event, marking the break the fast at sunset.
The event begins with arrival at 5:30pm, followed by optional prayers and the breaking of the fast at 6:00pm with dates and water.
Dinner will be served from 6:30pm, featuring authentic dishes from Sultans Experience (curry and rice). Those who have been fasting will be invited to eat first, followed by all other guests.
This gathering offers an opportunity to share food, conversation, and the spirit of togetherness that defines Ramadan.
All members of the university community are welcome, whether observing the fast or joining in support of friends and colleagues.
This is a free event, but booking is essential as spaces are limited. Please book your place for this event through the College and Community LibCal page.
A day of community and cultural connection
Together, these events celebrate cultural diversity and foster a sense of belonging across all colleges. Students and staff are warmly encouraged to take part in one or both activities and learn about Ramadan in an inclusive environment on campus.
