Following huge annual success since 2016, Sport Lancaster's sprint-distance Triathlon event will this year be hosted on Sunday 8 September.
Taking place on Lancaster University's Bailrigg Campus, the Triathlon can be completed as a whole by individuals, or within teams whereby each member completes their chosen, preferred sport.
The team aspect makes the event suitable for beginners tempted to Try-a-Tri, alongside seasoned triathletes taking on the whole challenge.
The sprint-distance sports included in the Triathlon are;
- 400m Swim
- 20km Bike
- 5km Run
Raising money for local charities
All proceeds raised from this event will go to St John's Hospice & Cancer Care. Over the years, the Triathlon has raised over £31,000 for these charities combined. Participants' individual fundraising for one or both of these charities is encouraged, and, sponsorship from friends and family also acts as a great incentive to complete the challenge!
Event sponsors
The triathlon's transition spaces and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category are sponsored by FRS Roofing Services. Upon completion of the race, every participant will receive a congratulatory medal, sponsored by Tilbury Douglas.
In memory of Andy Bailey
Dr Andy Bailey was a much loved and respected colleague at Lancaster University Management School from 1997-2015 who died suddenly at the age of 49. Andy will be most fondly remembered by those privileged to have known him as a scholar who was outstanding at translating the academic theory of strategic management and change management to the everyday complexity of practice. Perhaps most importantly colleagues, students, and friends would genuinely describe him as a "great bloke". He was an understated man, gracious in his time to all, kind to a fault.
