Materealising the Text: J.R.R. Tolkien & His Materials of Reality-Making - an el@cw research seminar
The Department's first-ever 'Tolkien Seminar' – an exploration of the life and works of one of the most famous (and divisive) authors of the 20th Century. Whether you're a hardcore lover of all things Tolkien, with multiple readings of his Legendarium behind you, or a more casual fan of the films; whether you detest Tolkien's work, or are just not all that bothered about it – you're more than welcome to attend.
The session will begin with a 10-minute introductory paper on Tolkien's paratext (his maps, illustrations, appendices, etc.), given by PG Researcher Thomas Bailey, before opening up to a more informal discussion. If you would like to present/read from work of your own on the topic, please email Thomas at: t.bailey5@lancaster.ac.uk
