Artists from across the world are invited to submit work to the inaugural Art Beats Festival, jointly organised by Lancaster University and Sunway University in Malaysia.

The festival welcomes multi-disciplinary works in form or content, from craft and traditional arts, painting, sculpture and photography to multi-media, film and video art, theatre and performance to experimental sound and music.

This year’s festival focuses on the themes of Planetary Health, Crossing Borders and Hidden Voices.

With the help of artists in residence and academics from both universities, a selection of works will be curated for a physical exhibition at Sunway University as well as a larger exhibition online.

It is free to enter and prizes will be awarded in each category. Submissions close 30th June.

Festival founder and organiser Dr Maryam Ghorbankarimi, of Lancaster University, said: “Art Beats is all about celebrating art and artists of all kinds globally and it has been wonderful to work with colleagues at Sunway University on this project.

“Having the festival online as well as in physicality will allow work to be showcased on a global scale and be accessed by as many people as possible.

"I am very excited to see the exhibition coming together and look forward to the festival in Sunway this year and to bring it to Lancaster in 2024.”

This is the first year of the project funded by Lancaster University Global Advancement Fund. It is open to everyone, all over the world not just staff and students of Lancaster and Sunway.
