Ever wanted to make an app? This event is for everyone who is curious about mobile app development, including those who don’t have a technical background as well as developers who want to have a more spherical view of what is involved in building an app and a business on top of it.

📱 Make your first mobile app prototype

Ever wanted to make an app? This event is for everyone who is curious about mobile app development, including those who don’t have a technical background and want to know more about starting as well as developers who want to have a more spherical view of what is involved in building an app and a business on top of it.

🧠 In this two day hackathon you will be working in a small team to go through design process and bring an app idea to life. Across the two days there will be talks from tech entrepreneurs and professionals working in this space on the following topics:

- When is making a mobile app appropriate?

- Building a clean user interface

- Designing a great user experience (UI/UX)

- Technologies for mobile app development

- Building a proof of concept

- Fund-raising

- Hiring a developer and writing up the specifications

- Building a tech business as a non-technical founder

🏆 The Prize :

At the end of the event your group will submit a video walk-through of their app prototype which will be evaluated by a panel of experts. The winners will gain access to the Innovation Box, a programme run by the ISS on campus that supports the validation and refinement of ideas. If you go through this programme successfully you will be awarded £1000 from the Enterprise Centre towards the development of a prototype of your app. Additionally if your idea involves improving student experience on campus or any University process you will also be granted an additional £1000 in development time to shape your prototype.

👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 Be More Employable - The People in Progress Certificate

Participants who join both days and submitted a satisfactory video walk-through of their app will be awarded the People in Progress certificate from the Enterprise team to demonstrate they participated in the hackathon along with a breakdown of areas that were discussed and the skills they developed.

✏️ How to sign up?

Bookings must be made through Target Connect service. The link for this event can be found on the tickets section on our Facebook page or by searching 'Work in Progress - Summer App Hackathon' on Target Connect. Please note that the event has a limited number of spaces. For that reason a waiting list system will be implemented on a first come-first serve basis. People who book will be asked to confirm attendance over email soon after registering as well as closer to the event or their place will be given to someone else.
