Event Details

A Musical Exchange will bring together the ethereal elegance of the Chinese pipa and the fiery passion of the flamenco guitar in an extraordinary fusion of traditions, showcasing their shared virtuosity and capacity for profound emotional resonance.

Chinese pipa virtuoso Gao Hong and flamenco guitarist Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde have been touring their award-winning debut album, Alondra throughout the U.S. and China in 2024. Many of the selections this evening will come from this recording, where the musicians travel from ancient Asian dynasties, through the Thar desert to Andalusia, harmoniously combining cultures as the East meets West. Lancaster audiences may remember our online concert during the covid pandemic that took place in India with Ignacio and his brother, Santiago.

The Confucius Institute is delighted to work with Lancaster Arts so audiences can share in this musical adventure of two musicians from different cultures and traditions. The concert will be followed by a discussion on the rich exchanges of musical heritages. We welcome our audience to join in!
