Need a dose of Christmas cheer? Missing the joy of singing with others? Join this free Christmas Songs Wellbeing Workshop for Lancaster University staff and Co-working companies.
Singing has many benefits for mental and physical well-being, including improved mood, reduced stress, and connecting with people. Join this informal lunchtime singing session for Lancaster University staff (including Co-working companies) to sing popular Christmas carols and songs. Come on your own or bring your colleagues and sing together. Christmas jumpers optional! Christmas hats and jingle bells will be available!
This is an inclusive, neurodivergent-friendly singing workshop, with all abilities and those of all faiths and no faith welcome. Run by experienced lead singer and conductor Amanda Ross (RES), former Musical Director of local community choir The City Singers, we’ll sing a mix of Christmas Carols like 'Hark the Herald', and popular songs, like 'Last Christmas' and 'Have yourself a merry little Christmas.'
Do I have to be able to read music?
No! We’ll work from a book of lyrics sheets (shared in advance) that you can print, read on your digital devices, or borrow on the day. You don’t need to know how to read music or remember any words. If you do know any harmonies or descants, you’ll be encouraged to sing them. We'll be singing a cappella (without instruments).
Do I have to stand up the whole session?
No. Seating is provided. Those who are able are welcome to stand and sing, but you can sit, move around, take a break, sway, dance, or clap along, whatever feels comfortable for you. The aim is to relax, have fun, and sing your heart out!
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your own drinks.
Cost?
The event is free, but we’re collecting donations for the Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service. Any amount you can give will help support some of our city’s most vulnerable people, thank you very much.
How do I find it?
The Lancaster Environment Centre Training Rooms are in LEC II on the ground floor.
