Event Details

The aim of the interdisciplinary IPR is to create space for challenging and provocative conversations around topics which affect us all and our futures. To this end, we are holding a panel discussion on the future of the UK food system. We have four great speakers who, coming from diverse perspectives, will reflect on what needs to change. We have invited them to speak from their past and present research, as well as lived experiences and personal perspectives.

All are welcome to attend and participate in this extended LEC Seminar to kick off the academic year

To this end, we are holding a panel discussion on the future of the UK food system. We have four great speakers who, coming from diverse perspectives, will reflect on what needs to change. We have invited them to speak from their past and present research, as well as lived experiences and personal perspectives.

Speakers:

Nell Benney, LEC PhD student and social scientist working on the UK agroecological sector. She draws on her experiences as a farm worker, and her work with the new trade union for land workers Solidarity Across Land Trades (SALT).

Prof Paula Harrison, UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, integrated modeller and former Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Nexus Assessment on the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food, health and climate change.

Prof Alex Lees, Manchester Metropolitan University. An ecologist, Alex contributes to debates on ecological restoration and the environmental impacts of UK upland land management in National Parks and elsewhere. He has a long-term interest in bird migrations, citizen science, and biodiversity monitoring.

Dr Josi Fernandes, Lecturer in Marketing at Lancaster University Management School, working on "market-making", towards more ethical and responsible food markets. Her research also explores the environmental and social controversies of food system transitions such as salmon evolving from a luxury item to a staple seafood.

Come along and join the discussion!
