Volcanology

A volcano errupting

About us

Our volcanology research group examines the processes driving volcanic activity and their impacts on landscapes, ecosystems, and society.

We study magma generation, eruption dynamics, and volcanic hazards through fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and geophysical monitoring. By analysing volcanic deposits, gas emissions, and seismic signals, we aim to improve eruption forecasting and risk mitigation strategies.

Volcanology is inherently interdisciplinary, intersecting with geochemistry, atmospheric science, and hazard management. Our research informs both scientific understanding and policy, supporting efforts to build resilience in communities living with active volcanic systems and to interpret volcanic records in the context of global environmental change.
