Title: Live collaboration using DataLabs: outcomes from the DSNE away day

Abstract: At the end of September, the DSNE away day saw project members unleashed on several environmental datasets for two days of collaborative idea-generating and prototyping, working together in-person using the Lancaster University/UKCEH DataLabs virtual laboratory environment. We will share the outcomes of this event; the scientific results and possible directions for new studies, as well as the experience of working with DataLabs. After an introduction to the work done by groups focused on each of the datasets – UK moth count data, supraglacial lake outlines in Greenland, and car-and-bike mounted air-quality sensor data around Lancaster – we will present a group discussion on working collaboratively in a shared online environment, covering the opportunities afforded, the challenges encountered, and the ways in which we see the technology and the way it is used developing in the future. These experiences may help you to make decisions around the use of these types of shared computing resources within your own projects.
