The Future Places Centre, the Institute for Social Futures and the Data Science Institute, are delighted to announce that Bill Buxton, the world's leading expert on computer input devices and interaction - on touch screens and interfaces, keyboards, the computer mouse and so forth - will be visiting Lancaster University on the 27th and 28th of February. Bill's website provides an overview of his amazing record, while this is his personal mantra:
Ultimately, we are deluding ourselves if we think that the products that we design are the "things" that we sell, rather than the individual, social and cultural experience that they engender, and the values and impact that they instil. Design that ignores this is not worthy of the name.
Bill will give a colloquium at 2pm on the Monday 27th in Lecture Theatre 3 in LUMS. Anyone who would like to meet Bill one on one should contact his host, Richard Harper. (r.harper@lancaster.ac.uk)
