This is a multidisciplinary talk which should be of interest to anyone working in health, environment, or policy.

Title: ‘Translating research for climate adaptation’

Emma is leading a project called Local Climate Adaptation Tool or LCAT (https://lcat.uk/). The Local Climate Adaptation Tool has been developed by the University of Exeter’s European Centre for Human Health, Cornwall Council, Then Try This and The Alan Turing Institute with co-design partners from Local Government, the National Health Service, emergency services, and voluntary and private sectors. The aim of the tool is o provide stakeholders with usable data on how the climate in their area is likely to change, the impacts on public health including which groups are most vulnerable, and adaptions to climate change most appropriate for the local area.

Abstract: The seminar will explore the needs of, and barriers to action faced by local authorities in responding to climate change and approaches to support evidence led climate action. We will share progress on two related projects: DyME-CHH (Dynamic Models for the Environment: Climate Heat and Health) – a dynamic model estimating personal exposures to heat using projected, simulated data, and LCAT (Local Climate Adaptation Tool), an innovative tool built in collaboration with stakeholders to guide adaptation strategy. We will discuss the hopes for DyME-CHH outputs and challenges faced to translation and explore the successes to date of LCATs approach.
