Event Details

A series of virtual seminars by high profile speakers to present and discuss the latest development and emerging technologies for CO2 capture and utilization. Organised in collaboration with our partners in Malaysia, Germany, Ghana and China.

Carbon dioxide is well recognized as the major contributor to global warming which makes reduction in its emissions a worldwide emergency and priority. Efforts have already been published to capture and sequester CO2 from large point sources, especially power plants; however, the utilization of CO2 as a feedstock to produce chemicals, materials, and fuels is a great strategy as it provides a more economical and sustainable solution than sequestration. Similarly, land- and ocean-based CO2 capturing methods are emerging as green technologies with huge potential for scaling up at global level.

In these series of online seminars, international speakers from USA, UK, Australia, India, Qatar, Thailand, Pakistan and Malaysia will be sharing and discussing the most recent innovations and emerging technologies being developed in the field of carbon dioxide capture and utilization.

Day 1: Green Technologies for CO2 Capture

9:00 - 10:00am: Carbon capture, utilization and implications Professor Malti Goel, Climate Change Institute, India.

10:00 - 11:00am: CO2 capture - the quest for green solvents Professor Mohamed Kheireddine Aroua, Sunway University, Malaysia.

11:00 - 11:45am: Application of machine learning approaches for the sustainable development of CO2 mitigation processes Dr. Shaukat Mazari, Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan.

This event is part of the COP26@ Lancaster University Festival, which aims to spark debate and showcase our leading specialists and research relating to climate change in the run-up to the United Nation’s COP26 in Glasgow. The week-long COP26@ Lancaster University Festival takes place from Wednesday 20th October to Wednesday 27th October 2021. Please note that this session will be recorded.
