About us
Ecology and conservation research at the Lancaster Environment Centre makes both fundamental and applied advances. We study below-ground and above-ground communities and their linkages, organisms from microbes to sharks, and work across habitats from tropical coral reefs, rivers and forests, to temperate ecosystems, including the diverse habitats close to the Lancaster campus. We combine ecological, behavioural, molecular and social-ecological perspectives to understand how ecosystems function, how they respond to global change, and how they can be managed to enhance biodiversity and its associated services. We collaborate widely with government and non-government partners, and have a strong track record of delivering real-world impacts from our research.
