Helen worked with GBUK Healthcare for her placement year.
I choose to take a placement year because I believed it would provide me with valuable work and life experience.
In my role at GBUK Healthcare I was given a lot of responsibility as I was the only technical IT employee. I was given full responsibility of project managing and developing three websites simultaneously, creating training manuals, setting up e-learning courses and analysing web statistics. In the final few months of my placement I also worked on creating an app for the company and also building an intranet.
I was really surprised and pleased with the amount of responsibility I was given on my placement. I got to lead meetings with the directors of the company and I had sole responsibility for a lot of the tasks I was asked to carry out. The atmosphere in the office was great, everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there.
I have liked seeing different types of work environments. Before GBUK I was not looking forward to going to work after university , however having experienced the environment I am now happy that I have been through the experience whilst on placement so that when it comes to look for a job in the future I now know what to look for in a company.
My expected job in the future would be in web design/development. Over the year I have learnt that I am a creative person who likes to take control and manage projects. I am now much happier leading conversations, which I never was prior to my placement and I have developed my technical skills by acquiring an in depth knowledge SQL, CSS, HTML and CMS tools which will all help a career in web design/development.
