Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

I loved Lancaster when I first came to visit. It was so welcoming and I really felt at home here. The idea of completing a placement year whilst studying also really appealed to me.

What was the best thing about your course?

The range of different modules we could take. I loved combining my course with Economics and Management Science in my first year and then continuing with a few of these modules into my later studies. I really enjoyed the trips I went on with my department too - the highlight being New York and Boston with LUMS.

Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?

I did a summer internship in between my first and second year and also a year industrial placement in my third year. I worked with EY in their London Bridge office and gained valuable work experience. I worked on some FTSE100 clients completing audit work and really stretched myself. I think completing a placement year definitely made my final year easier. I had a job lined up once I completed my degree and I could see how my modules would help me within my job role.

Describe your time at LUMS in three words.

Exciting, memorable and enjoyable

What are your best memories of your time?

I loved being part of the student ambassador scheme at Lancaster. I met so many great people through this role and also managed to find a job which was flexible around my studies. I also got to share my experiences with students who were considering their options about universities and hopefully make a difference!

What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?

Lancaster is a great city! It has such a friendly feel and it is really tailored around the student experience. With the 9 undergraduate colleges on campus, there's always somewhere to hang out. It's also great being in a smaller city as you see people day in day out and it's really nice to see familiar smiley faces.

Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?

I tailored my degree to ensure I was eligible for the maximum number of exemptions for my professional qualifications to become a Chartered Accountant once I graduated. This has definitely taken the pressure off and has meant that I can focus on those modules.

What impact has your Lancaster experience had on your career?

I have gained so much confidence whilst at Lancaster which means I am happy to go to client sites alone and speak on the company's behalf. I have gained confidence in public speaking from presentations and assessments at Lancaster, giving me the confidence to help with training within my work place.
