Why did you choose to study at LUMS?
I chose to study at LUMS because of its strong academic reputation in marketing and its close connection to industry. After gaining hands-on experience in both B2B and B2C marketing roles – ranging from consumer activation at Henkel to SEO work at Publicis and global game promotion at Astrolabe Games – I wanted a program that could deepen my strategic thinking while staying practical. LUMS stood out for its balance between academic theory and real-world application, especially through its company-commissioned dissertation and focus on consumer behaviour. I was also drawn to the supportive and international environment, which matched my background working across different markets and cultures.
What was the best thing about your course?
The best part of my course was the Consumer Experience module, especially the section on disabled consumers. It made me realise how easily some groups can be left out in marketing, even if it’s unintentional. I found it really meaningful as it showed me that marketing isn’t just about promotion, but also about empathy and inclusion.
What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?
Mary Hargreaves, our programme director, inspired me the most. She truly cared about our learning and always took the time to make sure we understood the material. You could tell she genuinely wanted us to gain as much knowledge as possible, not just pass the course. Her dedication and encouragement really motivated me to put in my best effort.
Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?
I did an internship at Henkel as a Market & Customer Activation Associate. I worked on B2B marketing strategies, analysed trade show reports and client data, and helped develop sustainability-focused campaigns. It gave me a clear view of how marketing works in a global company and how decisions are backed by data. I also improved my communication skills and learned how to manage projects under pressure.
Describe your time at LUMS in three words.
Fulfilling, Supportive, Inspiring.
What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster?
Some of my best memories come from being a student ambassador and a student rep. Both roles helped me connect with students from different backgrounds and made me feel like I was contributing to the LUMS community. As a student rep, I enjoyed working with staff to give feedback and improve the course.
What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?
The best thing about living in the Lancaster area is the peaceful environment. It’s a quiet town, which really helped me focus on my studies, but it’s also friendly and safe, so I always felt comfortable here. I also enjoyed the nature – walking along the canal or exploring the countryside was a nice break from university work.
Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?
The strategic modules and the student ambassador experience.
What impact has your Lancaster experience had on your career?
It gave me the confidence, skills, and global mindset to work across cultures and take on real marketing challenges professionally.
