Analyst, Millennium

Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

Compared to a lot of the universities I was looking at, Lancaster's green, leafy campus really stood out to me. Also, the range of different subjects that my course offered, from Sports Economics to Environmental Economics, allowed me flexibility within my studies.

What was the best thing about your course?

The broad portfolio of modules the Economics department offered, combined with the freedom of choice you are given, really allowed me to tailor my studies to my own interests. A key highlight of this was the ability to even pick some modules outside of the department. Being able to study the history and politics of the Middle East was a highlight for me due to my family background.

Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?

I did a 10-week summer internship at Millennium Management, one of the world's largest and most successful hedge funds. Whilst there, I spent time with a range of trading desks, including Emerging Markets & Event-driven, Equity Derivatives, Relative Value, Systematic, as well as numerous other teams.

Having exposure to an entrepreneurial environment that truly aims to foster new ideas and solutions really drove me to think critically, strive for excellence and understand the importance of a unified team. I'm excited to be rejoining Millennium as an Analyst after I graduate.

Describe your time at LUMS in three words.

Take Every Opportunity

What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster?

Being the captain of my college football team in my final year. We doubled memberships to 90 players compared to the year prior, and all three of our teams either achieved or fought for promotion in their respective leagues.

I was able to take what I had learnt from my prior years at university as well as my internship to foster a fun but competitive team environment alongside some of my closest friends. A key highlight for me was coming back from defeat to win a game in the last minute that would ultimately help us fight for the title. We also re-introduced weekly socials, allowing our teams some time away from academia and sports to create long-lasting friendships we hope to sustain after university.
