Why did you choose to study at LUMS?
I was really impressed with the reputation of not just the courses but the level of support for careers.
What was the best thing about your course?
The best thing about my course was the breadth of topics covered. I had no idea how in-depth and wide-reaching the topics I would learn about would be.
What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?
Paul McCormick really inspired me. I went to many of his workshops and talks and found him to be inspiring.
Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?
I did a placement year at GE Aerospace as the finance intern. I gained invaluable insight into working in a large company, taking on responsibilities and learning soft skills which will be valuable to me in my future roles. It was also a great experience to meet new people and put into practice what I had learnt at uni and see how things translated over into industry.
Describe your time at LUMS in three words.
Insightful, Useful and Fun
What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster?
My best memories were, in my first year, having made a new group of friends, going down to Barkers to play some pool and have some pints after uni.
What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?
It's super close to the Lake District and other nature walks, and much cheaper than down south.
What impact did scholarships or funding have on your degree experience?
I received a £2,000 scholarship in my first year. This was really nice as I wasn't expecting it, and it definitely helped as I initially wasn't great at managing my money.
Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?
Hopping on a Teams call with Paul, the financial careers coach, before interviews was the most useful thing I could have done.
What impact has your Lancaster experience had on your career?
It's allowed me to achieve my career goals and given me the confidence to know I will do well at my role.
